Doris Darlene Steele, 69, of Burlington, died Sunday morning, Sept 24, 2000, at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington. Visitation was Wednesday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis where the family met with friends in the evening.

The daughter of Carl and Mildred York Andries, she was born Aug. 6, 1931, at Kingston. She married Kenneth N. Steele on April 22, 1951, at Aurora, Ill.

She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family. She had been active at the Oak Street Baptist Church at Burlington where, for a time, she had worked at a day care for children at the church. In later years she had done home health care for family and others.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; two sons, Ronnie and Regina Steele and Jack and Sandra Kay Steele, both of Burlington; six grandchildren, Cinnamin, Heidi, Gabe, Shane, Tim, and Jeanie; three great-grandchildren, Ivy, Dax and Xanial; one sister, Opal and Ed Hahn of Burlington; one brother, Elmer Andries of Mediapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Louise; and four brothers, Martin, Art, Max and an infant.

The funeral service for Doris Steele will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, officiated by the Rev. Ron Presley. Korkee Carruthers will provide the organ music. Burial will follow at the Dolbee Cemetery, rural Mediapolis. The pallbearers are Ronnie Steele, Jack Steele, Gabe Steele, Shane Steele, Tim Steele, John Andries, Jason Leibli, Eric Higden and Andy Fisher.
