ROBERT "BOB" TOMFELD

Robert “Bob” Tomfeld, 68, 2658 Echo Avenue, Letts, Iowa passed away on October 2, 1997 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City after an extended illness.

Bob was born October 21, 1928 near Letts, a son of Harry L. and Margaret Yedlik Tomfeld. He married Patricia McGrew, June 5, 1950 in Muscatine.

Bob lived his entire life in the Letts community, having graduated from the Letts school in 1946 and residing on their farm since 1950. Besides farming, he worked at Kent Feeds eight years. He later became Manager of Thermice Corporation, Muscatine, having been employed by the company from 1965 till his retirement in 1992.

Bob enjoyed his home and family, running his bulldozer, and watching the birds and squirrels in his backyard.

Survivors include his wife Pat; daughters Robin and husband Jerry Dieckman, Letts; Sherry and husband Brent Anderson, Wapello; and son Randy Tomfeld and wife Chris, Letts. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Ryan Dieckman, Moline, Illinois; Tiffany Tomfeld Stephens (Mrs. Jason); and Zachary Tomfeld, Letts.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, the Rev. Carla Hillyer of the Nichols Christian Church officiating. Burial followed in the Letts Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry Dieckman, Ryan Dieckman, Randy and Chris Tomfeld, Brent and Sherry Anderson.

Visitation was 4-8 Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the People Against Cancer, which is an alternative Treatment Organization.
