LUCILLE LESSENGER

Lucille Lessenger, 86, of 2702 180th St., rural Muscatine, Iowa and a former longtime resident of Wapello, died Sunday evening, Oct. 5, 1997 at the home of her daughter with whom she was residing. She was born on June 10, 1911 at Osceola, Iowa, the daughter of Phillip Andrew and Mary Elizabeth Mason Shaw.

She married Carroll J. Lessenger on August 12, 1929 at Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1981.

She was a graduate of the Yarmouth High School. She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello, the Derexa Rebekah Lodge of Wapello, the Long Creek Club, and the Louisa County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed watching her family in sports activities and was an avid fan of the Chicago Bulls, the Chicago Cubs, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She enjoyed embroidering and quilting along with traveling and playing Pinochle.

Survivors include a son, Arlo Lessenger of Muscatine; three daughters, Robert Boulton of Wapello; LaDonna Jo Lessenger of Muscatine and Riva Brown of Muscatine; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a granddaughter, and a sister.

A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997 at the Wapello Cemetery with the Rev. John Ling officiating.

There was no viewing or visitation for Lucille Lessenger, with the arrangements and services being provided by the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Senior Circle Adult Day Care of Muscatine.
