PATRICIA L. PETTIS

Patricia Lou Pettis, 66, Burlington, IA, died 3:10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, IA.

Patricia was born August 10, 1934, in rural Wapello, IA, to Glenn and Gladys Dunn Taylor. She was a graduate of Wapello High School and Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, IA. She married John W. Pettis on May 8, 1958 in Wapello.

She taught school in Yarmouth and Ft. Madison, and in Burlington Elementary Schools for 38 years.

She was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church of Burlington and the Des Moines County Retired Teachers Association. She loved gardening and giving away the produce, and making Christmas candy for her friends. She was a very caring and dedicated teacher and after retiring taught homebound children.

Patricia Pettis is survived by her husband, John, Burlington; two daughters, Debbie and Becky Pettis, both of Burlington; two sisters, Josephine Henry, Galesburg, IL and Marcy Gerst Meeker, Columbus Junction, IA; three nieces, two nephews, two great-nieces and three great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ruth Taylor.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2000, at Lunning Chapel, Burlington, the Dr. Rev. Dennis Tevis and Rev. Missey L. Brown officiating. Burial was in Mallory Cemetery, Wapello.

Open visitation was Monday, Sept. 4, 2000 in Lunning Chapel. The family met with friends at the Chapel Monday evening.

A memorial has been established for books to be given to the North Hills School in Burlington.
