DR. W. C. McWILLIAMS

Wapello – Walter Chester McWilliams, DO, 84, died at his home here early today following an extended illness.

Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Richard Smith will officiate. Visitation is at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. There will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Burlington Chapter of AA.

Dr. McWilliams was born Jan. 8, 1902 at Conesville, a son of Charles and Calista Carpenter McWilliams. He lived in Columbus Junction the early part of his life and graduated from high school there. In 1926 he graduated from Still College of Osteopathy in Des Moines. For a few years he practiced in Chicago and in 1932 began his business in Wapello from which he retired in 1981. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 5 A.F.&A.M. and since 1950 was very active in the Burlington Chapter of AA. His marriage to Aase Andersen took place Oct. 23, 1934 in Kahoka, Mo. She died March 3, 1984.

Survivors include two sons, Rex McWilliams, Morristown, N.J.; and Dr. Erik McWilliams, Rockville, Md.; one daughter, Ingrid Hurwitz, Ithaca, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Wendell McWilliams, Fairfield; and two sisters, Elizabeth Noble, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and Mary Kincaid, Kerwin, Kans.

Three brothers also preceded him in death.
