Samuel L. Murray, age 92, Wapello, died Thursday, April 18, 1996 at the Burlington Medical Center. The son of William and Emma (Darnell) Murray, he was born July 3, 1903 at Valpraiso, Nebraska. On June 20, 1924 he married Lola M. Pease at Fort Madison, Iowa; she died April 27, 1994. The couple farmed in Des Moines County until retirement when they moved to Wapello.

Survivors include; 1 daughter, Eleanor Stone of wapello; 1 son Sharon Murray of Oakville; 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 great-grandson, 3 sisters, Martha, Vira, Francis, and 3 brothers, Bob, Bill and Ben.

Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 1996 at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Rev. Judith Shields officiating. Music was provided by Bev Parsons, organist, and John Zippe, vocalist.

Interment followed at the Wapello Cemetery. Casket bearers were Norman Stone, Fred Stone, Greg Stone, Gene Murray, Cathy Phillips, and Peggy Yotter.

A memorial has been established for the Wapello Rescue Unit.
