C.O. GERALDINE OTTO

C.O. Geraldine Otto, age 88, of Wapello, died Sunday afternoon, October 1, 1995 at the Wapello Nursing and Care Center where she had been a resident for about nine years. Previous to that time she had lived in Muscatine since 1954 and before that had resided in Wapello from 1930. The daughter of Claude and Pearl Griggs Webb, she was born in Oakville on December 6, 1906. She married August N. Otto on June 25, 1924 at Oakville. He died August 16, 1971.

She had attended the Oakville Elementary and High School and also had taken various college courses. She had worked at the I.A.A.P. of Burlington and Parish Produce of Wapello and also at the Muscatine County Commission on Aging.

Her memberships included the Park Avenue United Methodist Church, the Rebekah Lodge having served as a Past Grand Matron, the Order of Eastern Star, the White Shrine #5 of Jerusalem, and the American Legion Auxiliary, all of Muscatine.

Survivors include five daughters, LaMaye (Mrs. Orlando) Swailes of Muscatine, Maxine (Mrs. John) Bowman of Orion, Illinois, Mary Beck of Milan, Illinois, Sharon (Mrs. Owen) Blick of Muscatine, and Patricia (Mrs. David) Shope of Davenport; four sons, John Otto and Junior Otto both of Muscatine, Robert Otto of Ozark, Missouri, and Rex Otto of Muscatine; twenty-six [grand]children; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Luzella Wagner of Grants Pass, Oregon and Audria Cheeley of Portland, Oregon; and one brother William “Bill” Webb of Muscatine. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son Harlan; and four brothers, Archie, Basil, Claude, and Thomas Webb.

The funeral service for Geraldine Otto was held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 4, 1995 at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello, with Rev. John Ling officiating. Music was provided by Bev Parsons as organist and Bill Webb with a special selection.

Burial followed at the Wapello Cemetery. The casket bearers included Michael Metzger, David Wittman, Rodney Swailes, Lance Garner, Randy Goodale, and Harlan Goodale.

The family met with friends Tuesday evening at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.

A Memorial Fund has been established for a benefit at the Wapello Nursing and Care Center.
