Howard Kenneth Caldwell, age 82, R.R.2, Mediapolis, died Sundsy September 29, 1991 at the Burlington Medical Center.

The son of Elmer and Martha (Mehaffy) Caldwell, he was born January 27, 1909 at Mediapolis. On June 17, 1937 he married Vera Klindt at Mediapolis.

He was a graduate of the Mediapolis High School, class of 1927; was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mediapolis; a member of the Masonic Lodge #388 and the White Stare Chapter of O.E.S., both of Mediapolis; he had worked many years for the Des Moines County Assessor's Office; was Yellow Spring Township Clerk; he was a farmer and a member of the Farm Bureau; he had enjoyed being a part of the local Bowling League in earlier years.

Survivors include his wife, Mediapolis; 2 daughters, Janice Forcier Wheeler and Nadine Winkler, both of Tuscon, Arizona; 6 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Elsie Swanson, Mediapolis; Ethyl Beik, Wapello and Alice Graham, Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, John Howard Caldwell, 1 grandson, Bryan and 1 sister, Martha.

Masonic services were held Tuesday evening October 2, 1991 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, Mediapolis, with Mediapolis Masonic Lodge #388.

Funeral services were held Wednesday October 2, 1991 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dick Reynolds officiating. Music was provided by Junellen Chiprez, organist. Honorary bearers were: Talmage Mehaffy, Gerald Beik, Kenneth Baird and Paul Baird. Casket bearers, Mark Mehaffy, John T. Mehaffy, Harold Chrissenger, Gary Swanson, Art Cetner, Frank Trevitt. Interment was in the Kossuth Cemetery, Mediapolis.

A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian church.
