Mary L. Godwin, age 88, of Wapello, died Tuesday evening, March 6, 1990 at Burlington Medical Center. She was born March 23, 1901 near Oakville, Iowa, the daughter of John and Jennie Owens Campbell. On September 29, 1920 she married Lloyd M. Godwin at Wapello. Together they farmed at Redfield, Oakville, Morning Sun, Keosauqua and Wapello.

Mary Godwin was a member of the United Methodist Church at Morning Sun, the B Square Sunday School Class, and the Happy Hour Club of Morning Sun. She also was a seamstress.

Survivors include her husband Lloyd; two daughters (Mrs. Fred) Betty Brown of Wapello and (Mrs. Paul) Kathryn Lauderback of Hillsboro, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Martha Curran of Yarmouth, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Scott; one sister, Bessie Ray; and three brothers, Kenneth, Kermit and Paul.

Funeral service for Mary Godwin was was held Friday, March 9, 1990 at 1:30 p.m. at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello with the Rev. George Yetter officiating. Elsie Stephens provided the organ music. Casket Bearers were Dave Godwin, John Godwin, Steven Godwin, Bill Yohe, Tim Yohe and Bruce Godwin. The flowers were cared for by Jan Brannen and Cindy Jenkins.

Burial followed at the Elmwood Cemetery at Morning Sun.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefits of the Wapello Community Ambulance service and/or the Wapello United Methodist Church.

The family met with friends Thursday evening at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.
