Funeral Rites Set for Tuesday

Funeral services for Ernest William Berg, 57, Muscatine grocer, who died at 8:55 p.m. Saturday at his home, 200 Clinton street, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the George M. Wittich Funeral home with the Rev. Milton E. White, pastor of the Mulford Congregational church, officiating. The body is at the funeral home and burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Mr. Bert's death followed an illness of two weeks, caused by a complication of ailments.

Identified with the grocery business for many years, Mr. Berg was a charter member of the Independent Sell-Rite stores and was serving as vice-president of the organization at the time of his death.

The son of August and Minnie Berg, he was born in Brandenberg, Germany, Feb. 17, 1884, coming to America and to Muscatine with his parents when but two years of age. He married Miss Carrie M. Watts in Muscatine on April 11, 1907. Mr. Berg was a member of the Musserville Methodist church.

Surviving are the widow; one son, Walter L. Berg, and two daughters, Mrs. Gerald Wingerter and Mrs. Norbert Liebbe, all of Muscatine; two brothers, Charles F. Berg and William A. Berg, both of Rock Island; three sisters, Mrs. Charles Lorger and Mrs. John Richlen, both of Dixon, Ia., and Mrs. Ida Fletcher of Spokane, Wash., and three grandchildren, Marilyn Greenwald, Gary Wingerer and Carol Ann Wingerter. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, two sons and a brother.
