The funeral service for 86 year old Dorothy A. Smith of Columbus Junction, Iowa was held on Tuesday, May 23, 1995 at 1:30 p.m. at the Columbus City Free Methodist Church, Columbus City, Iowa. Visitation was held Monday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction, Iowa from 4-8 p.m.

A Memorial has been established.

Dorothy Smith died on Friday, May 19, 1995 at the Sunrise Terrace Care Center, Winfield, Iowa.

Burial was in the Cairo Cemetery, Cairo, Iowa.

Dorothy Alice Van Horn was born March 11, 1909 in Cairo, Iowa to William and Emma Humiston Van Horn. She married Lester Smith July 4, 1929 in Wapello, Iowa. Lester preceded Dorothy in death in February 1980. Lester and Dorothy were married for over 50 years.

Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Louisa County, an active member of the Columbus City Free Methodist Church and a member of the Columbus Junction Senior Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Frieda Thomas, Winfield, 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a great-granddaughter, two brothers, Floyd and Verle, and two sisters, Bernice and Bertha.
