Reid Cassabaum, 73, died Thursday, May 10, 2007 at the Crestview Care and Rehab Center in West Branch following an extended illness. Funeral services were held at 10 A.M. Saturday, May 12, 2007 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty with Rev. Marty Jacobson officiating. Burial was in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. A memorial fund has been established.

Lee Reid Cassabaum was born November 23, 1933 in Columbus Junction, the son of Everett and Verlee Wheeler Cassabaum. On December 24, 1952 he was united in marriage to Norma Jean Doak in Muscatine.

He had worked as a car dealer for many years in West Branch and West Liberty and later owned and operated Reid Motors. He also worked as an auctioneer and started the Nichols Auction. Most recently he had been employed in the housekeeping department at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

He was a member of the West Liberty Saddle Club, NRA and several coon-hunting organizations. He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, hunting mushrooms, attending the Rutlidge, Missouri Dog and Gun Sale, and most important was his family.

Survivors include, one daughter, Star Coleman of Iowa City; one son, Lee (Pat) Cassabaum of West Branch; sisters: Margaret Kunkel of Solon and Gwen Enke of Phoenix, Arizona; brother: Larry Cassabaum of West Branch; 4 Grandchildren, Kelly Holderness, Mike Cassabaum, Karen Mohwinkle and Shane Cassabaum; 5 great-grandchildren: Quinton and Hunter Cook, Trinity and Mason Cassabaum and Braden Mohwinkle. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife in 2003, brother, Eugene and an infant sister.
