Clement Clarence Chalupa, 97, of Richland, IA. entered into eternal life Saturday, January 13, 2007, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington.

Funeral services were Friday, January 19, 2007 at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Church in Richland with Rev. Charles J. Fladung officiating. Burial was in the Friends Cemetery in Richland. Memorials to the Richland Public Library or Richland Senior Citizen Center may be left at the church or mailed to 1124 Germanville Road, Brighton, IA. 52540. Arrangements are in the care of the Gould Funeral Home of Richland.

Clem was born December 5, 1909, in Kalona, IA., the son of James and Jenny (Prohaska) Chalupa of Kalona. He grew up in the Kalona area and attended Kalona schools. He married Orina Greiner at Sts. Peter and Paul (Holy Trinity) Clear Creek Catholic Church on October 23, 1941. They lived in the Kalona area working for Steve Wolfer and Earl and Juanita Redlinger before purchasing their own farm and moving to Richland in 1950. He retired from farming in 1978 then worked for BY Farm Market in Richland until 1985. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus; an active land conservationist, enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family.

Surviving are 9 children: Arlene (Gary) Fritz of Brighton, Janice (Ron) Stehl of Des Moines, Shirley (Bill) Juhl of Columbus Junction, Naomi (Larry) Bohr of Decatur, Il, Bonita (Stephen) Charles of Manchester, KY, John Chalupa of Ottumwa, Deanna (Forrest) McBeth and Patricia Griffin both of Richland, and Mary (Bruce) Jackson of Manchester, KY, John Chalupa of Ottumwa, Deanna (Forrest) McBeth and Patricia Griffin, both of Richland and Mary (Bruce) Jackson of Manchester, KY; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1987, two infant sons, Jerome and David, two sisters and two brothers.
