Phyllis Jean Christy, age 76, of Wapello, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at her home. The daughter of Harold H. and Esther Greene Hutton, she was born October 1, 1931, at Montezuma. She married Don Kight in 1951. He died in December of 1960. She married Glen Dean 'Tuck' Christy on December 9, 1961, at Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 8, 2003.

Phyllis graduated from Hedrick High School in 1950. She had worked at John Deere in Ottumwa. She was very active in helping on the farm.

She was a member of the Letts United Methodist Church, the AAA Card Club, and the Indian Creek Club. She enjoyed crafts, ceramics, dancing, bowling, gardening, and cooking. She and 'Tuck' wintered for many years at the Palm Shadows at Donna, Texas.

She is survived by her son, Brent Kight of Spring Lake, North Carolina; two daughters, Glenda and Duane Schneider of Wapello, and Mari Anne Wells of Hampton, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Deena Christy of Letts; thirteen grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Don and 'Tuck'; a son, David Christy; a daughter, Janet Hemphill; and a brother, Dean Hutton.

The funeral ceremony for Phyllis Christy was held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 20, 2007, at the United Methodist Church at Wapello, with Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. Burial followed at the McCormick Cemetery in Highland Center.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Community Ambulance Service and the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center.

The Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello provided the care and arrangements for Phyllis Christy.
