Mrs. Lula Virginia Buffington passed away after an extended illness on December 2, 1977, at 1:45 a.m. at the University Hospital, Iowa City. She was 65 years, 11 months and 3 days of age.

She was born December 29, 1911 in Columbus Junction to Leslie C. and Stella Isabelle Siverly Hill.

She was united in marriage to Reid A. Buffington on February 26, 1931. To this marriage 10 children were born: Daryl and Leslie of Buffalo; Paul of Columbus Junction; Mrs. Dalford (Virgia) Barrick of Muscatine; Mrs. Jack (Judy) Wise of Alburquerque, New Mexico; Benny of Winfield; Mrs. Keith (Mildred) Westfall of Columbus Junction; Mrs. Darrell (Carolyn)Weilbrenner of Bloomfield; Keith of Bethalto, Illinois; & Alan, deceased.

She is also survived by 34 grandchildren and one great grandchild and one sister, Mrs. Herbert (Mildred) Newell of Columbus Jct.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1966, son Alan in 1952, her parents and two sisters.

Until her recent retirement Mrs. Buffington was employed at the VA Hospital in Iowa City. Lula was an active member of Silver Leaf Rebekah Lodge and was a Past Noble Grand; also was active in the Emma Beckman Chapter of O.E.S. and was a member of the Past Matrons Club and of the Columbus city United Methodist Church.

An Eastern Star service was held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home and were conducted by Rev. Paul Hasel. Music was by Donna Belle Hughes and Mrs. Donnarae Carrell. Casket bearers were Fred, Jerry and Alan Buffington, Steve White, Sam Barrick and Scott Westfall.

Final resting place was the Columbus City Cemetery.
