Betty “Pat” Hills, 71, of Letts died Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at her home. Funeral services were Friday, April 13, 2007 at 1:00 pm at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Rev. Lavina Shoffner officiated. Casketbearers were Junior Briggs, Gary Lange, Jerry Kirk, Mike Bailey, Tom Parsons and Joe Starkweather. Burial was in Letts Cemetery. Following the services a time of food and fellowship was held in the Letts Community Center. A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Betty’s name. Betty “Pat” Ballenger was born on August 4, 1935 in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Chet and Gladys (Brown) Ballenger. On November 30, 1956 Betty was united in marriage to Ron Hills in Columbus Junction. Betty owned and operated the Hilltop Beauty Salon for 40 years and worked at L-M School. She was director on the board of League of Iowa Municipalities, She served many years on the Letts City Council and was a member of the Letts United Methodist Church. She enjoyed antiquing, crocheting, canning fresh produce and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Betty will be deeply missed by her children, Marty Hills and his wife, Sue of Fruitland, David Hills and his wife, Suzy of Letts and Greg Hills of Muscatine; her grandchildren, Jonathan, Kali, Brode, Brandon, Tony and Brock Hills, Brandon and Kamella Lessenger and Erin McConnaha; 2 brothers, Chet Ballenger and his wife, Carol of Huntington, TN and Butch Ballenger of Buchanan, TN; and her sister, Frieda Parsons of Benton, KY.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
