Janet Kay Hogan, age 68, died at her residence on Monday, January 30, 2006 following a courageous battle with cancer and surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, February 2, 2006 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev.Rose Blank officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel from 4 to 8 P.M., on Wednesday. A Memorial Fund has been established.

Janet was born in 1937 to Lewis and Garlyne Freeman and graduated from the Vinton High School in 1955. On January 8, 1955 she married Richard E. “Dick” Hogan at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton. Dick preceded her in death on June 24, 1995.

Janet served as Deputy County Auditor for Benton County until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Vinton Lutheran Home Auxiliary, the Red Hat Society, and the Vinton Community Band and served as a Volunteer at Virginia Gay Annex. She enjoyed golfing and was an excellent Bridge player who enjoyed playing cards each month with “The Ladies of the Evening.” Always involved in the lives of her two children, Janet’s greatest passion had been supporting her son’s participation in IMCA Modified Auto Racing.

She is survived by her children, Terri and John Shafer of Columbus City, and Scott and Jolyne Hogan of Vinton; her two grandsons, Drew Hogan and Hogan Shafer; and her special friend, Dick Bridge.

In addition to her husband, Dick her parents preceded her in death.
