Edwin "Dusie" Carson Buffington, 78, of Columbus Junction, died Sunday, June 5, 1993 at his home after an extended illness.

Born June 24, 1914, in Cedar Rapids he was the son of Gear and Blanche McKean Buffington. On April 8, 1939 he married Helen L. Nickerson in Palmyra, MO.

Mr. Buffington attended Columbus High School for two years and was graduated from Muscatine High School in 1933. He served with the Civil Air Patrol in 1944 in Pascagoula, Miss., prior to serving in the Navy during World War II. Mr. Buffington worked and farmed in the Muscatine and Columbus areas until retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Muscatine Moose, the Allen Wright Hanft Post 100 of the American Legion and the VFW. He also was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife; a step-daughter, Arlene Trader of Carrolton, Texas; a step-son, Jack Nickerson of Cedar Rapids; nine step-grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two step-grandsons.

The funeral for Mr. Buffington was at 1:30 P.M. Monday at the Stacy-Lewis Fuenral Home. Burial was in Indian Creek Cemetery with graveside military rites.

A memorial has been established.
