Rites Held Friday for O.C. Buffington, Father of Local Man

Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon at Spring Run church for O. Carl Buffinton, 70, of near Columbus Junction, father of Rex Buffington of Wapello. He died suddenly at his home southwest of Columbus Junction Nov. 26.

He was born Nov. 8, 1882, the son of Carson and Mary Buffington and was married July 9, 1902 to Lois Jennings.

Last July 9 Mr. and Mrs. Buffington celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in the beautiful home which has grown up around them as they reared their family.

The widow survives, as do five sons and a daughter: Clinton Buffington of Perry; Rex Buffington of Wapello; Layton Buffington and Mrs. Mildred Davis, both of Crawfordsville; Gerald and Kenneth Buffington, both of Columbus Junction.

There are 22 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Also surviving are an aged uncle, Marshall Jones of Ottumwa, three nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, one sister Lulu, and one brother, Gear, and two grandchildren.

The services Friday were in charge of the Rev. Lynn J. King and burial was in Columbus City cemetery.

A male quartet, Howell Owens, Feryl Gipple, Junior Graber and Craig Gipple sang "In the Garden" and "Have Thine Own Way". The pianist was Mrs. Lester Gipple. Pallbearers were James Jones, Milton Jones, Rollo Houseal, Bruce Jennings, Burch Buffington and Edwin Buffington. Flower attendants were Joy Davis, Leota Buffington and Maribeth Buffington.
