Dean Richard Buffington dies Sunday evening

Dean Richard Buffington, 65, rural Columbus Junction, died Sunday evening, March 8, 1981, at University Hospitals, Iowa City.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at the United Methodist Church in Winfield. Rev. Brown Garlock officiated with burial in the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites. A memorial has been established at the McKasson-Honts Funeral Home in Winfield.

He was born August 29, 1915, in Louisa county to Richard and Verdie Jennings Buffington. He married Velda McConahay on January 20, 1937. She died June 8, 1977.

He was a retired farmer, a graduate of Wyman High School and attended Spring Run Methodist Church. He was a member of Good Faith Masonic Lodge 235, Lousia County Shrine Club, Order of the Eastern Star 413, Kaaba Shrine and the Davenport Consistory.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lolita Zerbe, Augusta, Kansas, and Mrs. Lynne Tjepkes, Cedar Rapids; two sisters Mrs. Feryl Gipple, Columbus Junction and Mrs. Florence Davis, Winfield; a brother, Danny Ashland, Wapello.
