Columbus Gazette, April 9, 1992

Mrs. Bernadine Buffington, 77, of 1525 North Marion Avenue, Washington, died Sunday morning, March 29, 1992, at Washington County Hospital. She had been seriously ill for the past two months.

Fuenral services, officiated by Revs. Anne Lippencotte and Alton Milligan, were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Washington United Metodist Church. Burial was at Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington.

Memorials can be made to the Washington Untied Methodist Church, Spring Run United Methodist Church, and First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Buffington was born March 1, 1915, near Columbus Junction, the daughter of Harry and Alma Lemons Chamberlin. She attended school in Columbus Junction.

On June 28, 1933, she married Layton L. Buffinton in Davenport. Mrs Buffington, a homemaker, lived all of her life in Louisa and Washington counties.

She was a member of Spring Run United Methodist Church, the Wyman Community Club, the United Methodist Women and United Methodist Women's Missionary, and the YWCA American Legion Auxillary.

She is survived by three sons, Robert, Washington; Larry and Rick, both of Winfield; a daughter, Mrs. Marlan (Diane) Braet, Story City; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two brothers, Wayne Chamberlin, Palm Springs, California, and Dallas Chamberlin, Fairfield Bay, Arkansas.

Mrs Buffinton was preceded in death by her husband on May 22, 1980; her parents, and two brothers, Clifford and Floyd.
