R. Hollis Lauderdale, age 94, of Winfield, died Thursday, August 30, 2007, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center. The son of Jasper Renald and Minnie Jane (Lamar) Lauderdale, he was born September 1, 1912, at Dale, Indiana. On October 23, 1937, he married Winifred “Winnie” Whitaker at Brighton, Iowa; she died February 7, 2007. He was a graduate of the Conesville High School. He farmed in the Conesville area and later for Tom Huston in the Wyman community. He also worked at Rath Packing Plant. He was a member of the Moose Club and Ducks Unlimited. He loved to dance, hunt, fish, and wordworking. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren play ball, and anything to do with Winfield Wolves, Chicago Cubs, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Lauderdale and his friend, Georgia of Tempe, Arizona, Richard and Cathy Lauderdale of Winfield; one daughter; Mary and Harold Sens of Tonto Basin, Arizona, six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren, one sister, Fae Whitaker of Tonto Basin, Arizona, several nieces and nephews;

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, four sisters, and an infant sister.

The funeral service was at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Honts Funeral Home, with Rev. William Morehouse officiating. Interment followed at the Conesville Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Winfield Public Library and Sunrise Terrace Care Center.
