Russell Leonard “Jim” Lamp, 84, of rural Letts, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at his home. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 15, 2007, at 10:30 A.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. The Rev. Lloyd Mansfield officiated the services. Burial was in the Letts Cemetery. Casketbearers were James Steele, Garth Murry, Ed Smith, Steve Bryant, Skip Morrison, Kevin Wilson, Ben Lamp, Russell Lamp and Bradley Lamp. Honorary Casketbearers were Charles Morrison, James Coder, James Steele, and Richard Turner. Following the interment there was a time of food and fellowship held at the Letts United Methodist Church. Visitation for Russell was held on Friday, September 14th, from 3:00-7:30 P.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. A memorial fund for Russell has been established at the funeral home. Sympathy notes may be left for the Lamp family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Russell Leonard Lamp was born on January 9, 1923, in West Liberty, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Frances (Krotz) Lamp. He attended rural schools in the West Liberty area and graduated from West Liberty High School in 1941. Russell played football during his high school years and was an avid football fan all his life. On September 23, 1944, he was united in marriage to Delores Smith in Muscatine, Iowa.

Russell and Delores farmed side by side during their marriage, until retiring in 2005. During earlier years, he did electrical work with Marvin Coder in the Letts, Cranston, and surrounding areas. He also did custom combining for many farmers. Many times he would help neighbors who had furnace or electrical problems during the day or in the middle of the night. Russell enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, and collecting and working on Farmall tractors. Most of all, he enjoyed taking care of his family and loved them dearly.

Russell will be deeply missed by his wife, Delores Lamp of rural Letts; three children, Jerry Lamp and wife, Marcia of Letts, Sally Trimpe and husband, Ken of Solon and Tom Lamp of Lance Creek, Wyoming; three grandsons, Bradley Lamp of Iowa City, Russell Lamp and wife, Heather of Letts and Ben Lamp of Lance Creek, Wyoming; two great-granddaughters, Lydia Lynnette and Emma Rae Lamp of Letts; one step-granddaughter, Julie Trimpe and husband, Clifford Frey; one step-grandson, Brian Trimpe and his friend, Arthur Breur; one great-grandson, Oliver Frey; one sister, Rosemary Bryant and her husband, Robert of Muscatine; one brother-in-law, Neale Longstreth of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; two sisters-in-law; Jan Lamp of Eliza, Illinois and Marjana Lamp of Iowa City; and special friends, Skip Morrison, Jim and Kitty Steele and Charles and Carlene Morrison.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Pat and Mike Lamp; and three sisters, Wilma Lamp, Betty Longstreth and Kathleen
