Mrs. Oscar (Elizabeth) Brehme Called By Death

Elizabeth Garrett Brehme, daughter of Elizabeth Hume Garrett and John R. Garrett, was born at Cable, Illinois, January 21, 1878 and died July 3, 1969 at the Extended Care Center at Iowa City.

She was united in marriage to Oscar Brehme and to this union two sons were born. They also took other children into their home and raised them. During their early married life they lived near Coal Valley and Aledo, Illinois, moving to Conesville, Iowa in 1911, which has been her home since that time.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Conesville and had a special membership in the Conesville Women's Society of Christian Service. She had received her fifty year membership certificate from the Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star located at Lone Tree, Iowa.

Survivors are her two sons, Harold G. Brehme of Clearwater, Florida and Wilbur D. Brehme of Conesville, Iowa, also five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and a number of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1946, her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

She lived a good life, and had many friends. A number of her friends were young people.

Funeral services were held at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home Sunday, July 6, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Harold N. Olson officiating. Cecil Schlichting was organist. Casket bearers were John Coffin, Charles Buser, Donald Buser, Gerald Allen, Harry Chapman and Charles Shellabarger. Burial was in the Conesville cemetery.
