John W. Brauns, 92, Erie, PA died on Monday, September 26, 1994, at Hamot Medical Center.

He was born in Wapello, IA on August 27, 1902, the son of the late William D. and Katharine Wehmeyer Brauns.

He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1924 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

His early employment was with Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, Yellowstone Park Transportation Dept. and General Electric Co., where he worked until 1940. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the southwest Pacific in the 43rd General Service Regiment and as Commanding Officer of the 91st General Service Regiment. After the war, he returned to work at General Electric, where he stayed from 1945, working as manager of the Mining and Industrial Locomotive Department, until his retirement in 1967.

Mr. Brauns wrote the "History of the 43rd Engineers in World War II", which is now housed in the U.S. World War II Archives and the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

Mr. Brauns is survived by his wife, Ethel F. Klund Brauns, whom he married on July 19, 1930.

Services were held in Erie on Thursday, September 29 at the Burton Funeral Home and burial was in Erie Cemetery.
