Funeral services for Jess Willard Boyd was held on Monday at the Ralph Whittich Funeral Home in Muscatine. He died on Tuesday, April 23, 2002.

Jess Willard Boyd was born on March 18, 1915 in Conesville, Iowa to Hugh and Carrie Boyd. He served in the Army until he was medically discharged in 1943. He met Venita Dickey in February of 1944 and they were married five months later on July 4, 1944 in Muscatine. In 1956 they moved to California to raise their three children. He worked at TRC Helicopter in southern California until retiring to northern California in 1980 where he enjoyed making wine, working in his fruit orchard, putting around his yard and spending time with his great-grandchildren. He was an honest, hardworking, caring, loving man with a sense of humor that always left a smile.

He is survived by three children, Cheryl Johnson of California, Douglas Boyd of Columbus Junction and Steven Boyd of Fredonia; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren and two sisters, Caroline Hesseltine of Columbus Junction and Ethel Campbell of Prophetstown, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Janet Sue; one sister, Leona and four brothers, Frank, Willie, Joe and Don.
