Eben Davis Called By Death August 8

Into the household of an Iowa family where the cries and laughter of other children already existed, God breathed again and a new infant’s voice was heard in the home of Edward and Elizabeth Davis.

In the colorful autumn season, October 7, 1879, those parents were thus inspired and named their 6th child EBEN.

Along with his brothers and sisters Eben grew and spent his youthful years on the farmstead in Louisa County (known as the Elm Grove Farm).

Eben was baptized in his infancy and at the eligible age became a member of the Salem Welsh church.

In his youthful days, Eben attended an Academy in Washington to further and acquire the education then available to all young men.

Under the Providential hand of God, Eben extended his hand of love unto the hand of Miss Laura Jane Owens, and on the 18th of December in 1902 were united in the bond of holy marriage at the bride’s home near Cotter.

As a young married couple, they started housekeeping in the Welsh Community (Elm Grove Farmstead) and resided there until 1921 at which time they moved to their present residence in Crawfordsville.

God blessed this marriage with two girls: Alma and Genevieve, both residing in this community with their families.

In His divine and majestic way, God allowed this body to be the earthly temple for over four score years: then the angel of Mercy intervened and arrested this sojourn in death after a prolonged illness on August 8, 1962.

With his departure from this life, there are many who bequeathed the responsibilities to carry on that which he surrendered. He leaves his beloved wife Laura, two daughters, Mrs. Joe H Johnston, Mrs. Clair Holmes, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one brother Edward J. and one sister, Mrs. J.P. Jones, both of Duarte, California, a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.

“Death is but a halting place between two eternities a gentle wafting to immortal life”.

Funeral services were held at the United Presbyterian Church in Crawfordsville Saturday, August 11, 1962 at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Arthur Hughes.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Robert Kelsey of Washington.

Casket bearers were Howell Davis, Russell Owens, Paul Davis, Alfred Davis, Clarence Owens and Robert Howell.

Burial was in Cambrian cemetery.
