Vera L. Bowers, 82, of Rapid City, Ill., died Saturday, November 25, 1989, at the Illini Hospital at Silvis.

Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the Gibson Funeral Home in Port Byron. The Rev. Donald Riley of the First United Methodist Church of Port Byron officiated.

Burial was at the Winfield Cemetery at Winfield, Iowa Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Tom Zeleny had charge of the graveside service.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Bowers was born Aug. 14, 1902 in Muscatine, a daughter of Charles and Anna Bartenhagen Samuels. She married Cravel "Pop" Bowers on Aug. 15, 1925 in Muscatine.

Survivors include her husband, "Pop"; one son, Melvin of Port Byron; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers, Ray, Carl, and Dean Samuels, all of Wapello; and Glen and Bob Samuels, both of Morning Sun; three sisters, Margaret Bowers and Helen Peck, both of Winterhaven, Fla.; and Miriam McConahay of Muscatine.

She is preceded in death by one granddaughter and two sisters.
