Rev. Samuel Bowser dies

Rev. Samuel Bowser, 83, of Washington died Wednesday, June 8, 1988, at Washington County Hospital following a lengthy illness.

The funeral was held Saturday, 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Washington with the Rev. Walter Phelps and Dr. J. Roland Crandall officiating. Burial was in the Elm Grove Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Rev. Bowser was born in South English December 25, 1904, the son of Wilford and Emma Brower Bowser. He was educated in South English and the Garrett Seminary in Evanston, Illinois.

He married Matilda Brewer in Wellman March 29, 1926.

Rev. Bowser authored two books about his conversion and experience with the Lord and was ordained as a minister in 1958.

He farmed near West Chester until 1953 when he became a United Methodist Minister. He served churches at Gladwin, Tingley, Pulaski, Oakville and Riverside.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Ronald E. of West Chester; four daughters, Shirley A. (Mrs. Donald) Curtis of Washington, Marcie (Mrs. Skip) Renoux of Washington, Mary K. (Mrs. Dick) Schlatter of Wayland and June E. (Mrs. Bob) Dewar of Newton; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul Bowser of Cedar Rapids.
