WAPELLO, Iowa - Henry Fredrich "Heinie" Bowman, 97, formerly of Oakville and Burlington, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center.

He will be cremated and services are pending with the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello.

Mr. Bowman was born Nov. 21, 1909, in Burlington the son of Henry Harvey and Edith Senf Bowman. He married Virginia Birkenstock on Sept. 8, 1930, in Burlington. She preceded him in death on June 30, 1993.

He attended the Fairview Country School north of Burlington and completed through ninth grade at Burlington High School.

He worked for the CB&Q Railroad in the yards at Burlington and the shops in West Burlington and also at the IAAP as an inspector.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and reading. He loved his family and friends in Oakville.

He was a former member of the Bethany Lutheran Church at Burlington and currently a member of the Oakville Community Bible Church formerly known as the Church of God Holiness at Oakville. He belonged to the Masons.

He is survived by his son, James Bowman and wife Karen of McAllen, Texas; his grandson Steven Bowman of Oakville; four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Joseph, Ashley, and Lisa; and two great-great-grandchildren, Tyler and Ryne. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Virginia.
