Bowdre dies in Iowa City

Gayle Bowdre, 70, Wapello, died Saturday, May 27, 1989, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

She was born May 20, 1919, at Conesville, the daughter of Marcellus and Laura May Thompson Teel. On November 14, 1935, she married Derrell Bowdre at Toolsboro. He died on July 1, 1985. She worked for 13 years at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Burlington.

Survivors include one daughter, Zella Maye Brown, Oakville; two sons, Larry, Muscatine, Randall, Wapello; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Velma Adams, Carson City, Nevada, Mildred Beckman, Burlington, Eunice Tuggy, La Mirada, California, Carol Varner, Sunrise Beach, Missouri, Dorothy Morton, Gravis Mills, Missouri, Rene Gassett of Gulfport, Florida; three brothers, Francis Teel, Wintrop, Iowa, Randal Teel of Grandview and Louis Teel, Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers.

Funeral services were held at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello, Tuesday, May 30, at 2 p.m. Rev. Bill Young offciated. kathleen Hagele provided organ music. Casketbearers were Danny Bowdre, David Bowdre, Darrell Bowdre, Dale Bowdre, Bill Henry Brown, Scott Little, Glen Brown, Randy Bowdre Jr. and Chad Ruenells. Burial was in Harrison Cemetery, Wapello. Family received friends and relatives on Monday evening, May 29.
