Mrs. Alberta Black Funeral Rites

Mrs. Alberta Rossetta Black, Route 1, Letts, died Sunday, March 5, 1978, in her home following an extended illness at the age of 66 years, 6 months and 27 days.

Alberta Metcalfe was born August 8, 1911, in Muscatine, the daughter of James and Martha Smith Metcalfe. On November 18, 1941, she married George Curtis Black in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on August 27, 1971.

Most of her married life was spent in the Letts area.

She is survived by two sons, James W. and Harry M., both of Letts; two grandchildren; one brother, James Metcalfe of Bettendorf; and four sisters, Mrs. Ray (Genevieve) Hicks of Rock Island, Mrs. Walter (Edna) Stachar of Sun Valley, California, Mrs. Arnold (Eloise) Ziebarth and Mrs. Alice Whitlock, both of Muscatine.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Letts Independent United Brethren Church with Rev. J. Walter Glasscock officiating. Mrs. J. Walter Glasscock was organist. Robert Morris was usher. Casket bearers were Fred Feldman, Lloyd Crumly, Riley Padgett, Joe Boulton, Fay Crull and Noel Townsley. Burial was in Letts Cemetery in charge of the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home.
