Graveside services: 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, Columbus City Cemetery with full military rites by the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post 100. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Columbus Junction.

MORNING SUN, Iowa - Herman B. Best, 76, Morning Sun, formerly of Columbus Junction, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington.

The Rev. Cathy Whitlatch will officiate.

Mr. Best was born June 23, 1930, in Columbus Junction, the son of Benjamin and Alice Sheridan Best.

He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and had been employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation for more than 40 years. He was also an award-winning weather reporter for the Columbus Junction area for more than 45 years, representing the National Weather Service.

He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.

Survivors include a brother, Jack B. Best and wife Stella of Columbus Junction; and a sister, Margaret Schweitzer and husband Howard of Grandview.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
