Mrs. Ben Best Called By Death

Mrs. Alice Jane Sheridan Best, daughter of Herman and Nellie Gentzler Sheridan, was born at Columbus Junction, Iowa, June 16, 1908, and died May 2, 1970, at Memorial Hospital Mercy Unit, Burlington, Iowa, after an extended illness, at the age of 61, years, 10 months and 16 days.

All her life was lived in the Columbus Junction community where she had worked as a weather observer for over 25 years.

She was united in marriage to Benjamin F. Best, June 4, 1927, at Kahoka, Missouri, and to this union three children were born.

Survivors are: one daughter, Mrs. Howard (Margaret) Schweitzer, Grandview; two sons, Herman B. and Jack B. both of Columbus Junction; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her husband; one sister, Mrs. Margaret (Addison) Hills, Columbus Junction; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home and were conducted by Rev. Harold N. Olson, pastor of the United Methodist Church. Miss Donna Belle Hughes was organist. Casket bearers were Richard Hills, Ronnie Hills, William Hills, J.E. Henson, H.P. Edmondson and Raymond Hamilton.

Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery.
