Max L. Blankenhorn, 86, died in Mesa Ariz., on May 13, 2003. He was a retired farmer from the Wapello area, and had lived in Arizona for the last 30 years.

He was the son of Scott and Maude George Blankenhorn of Columbus Junction. He married Frances Deihl from the Wapello area, on May 22, 1937, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He farmed near Columbus Junction for several years and then moved to the Deihl farm south of Wapello where he farmed for about 25 years until his retirement in 1968.

Survivors include his wife Frances of Mesa; two daughters, Marilyn Jones of Loveland, Colo., and Linda Padgett of Boone; a son James of Scotts Valley, Calif; and nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Martha Hiller of Wapello and Maxine Bennett of Columbus Junction.

Interment was at Bethel Cemetery south of Wapello.
