Harley Bloomquist dies

Harley John Bloomquist, 83, of rural Letts, died Monday, August 11, at Colonial Manor.

Bloomquist, a farmer, was a member of the Iowa State and Louisa County Farm Bureau. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church of Columbus Junction.

He was born October 12, 1902, in Brighton, Iowa, the son of John and Mary Nelson Bloomquist. He married Irene Smith January 15, 1927, in Mt. Pleasant.

Services were held Wednesday, August 13, at 1:30 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Chapel. Rev. Richard Farris officiated. Organist was Mrs. Marsha Gerot.

Casket bearers were: Bruce, Wayne, and James Hartman, Chet Hafner, Jack Estle and Joe Boulton. Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery.

A general memorial has been established.

Bloomquist is survived by daughter, Rose Crone, Burlington; son, James Bloomquist, Conesville, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, who died in 1976, two sisters, Mamie and Emma; five brothers, Eddie, Churley, Victor, Sidney and Arthur; and one great-grandchild.
