Frank Melvin Baird, 1901-1987, 86, Wapello died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1987 at the Wapello Nursing Home.

Born March 12, 1901 in Montgomery County, near Red Oak, he was the son of Silas Melvin and Frankie Blair Baird. He married Elizabeth Anna Jack, July 29, 1922 at Red Oak.

He was a longtime farmer in the Red Oak area before moving to Louisa County in 1934 where he farmed another 40 years.

He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a Louisa County Supervisor from 1964 to 1972 and was active in the Republican Party.

Surviving are his wife, Anna; two sons, Stanley Baird, Blue Lake, Calif., and Malcolm Baird, Burlington; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Tuesday at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home. A memorial has been established for the Wapello First Presbyterian Church.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Bill Young officiated. Pamela Butler was organist. Flower attendants were Jeanette Dotson and Betty Brown.

Pallbearers were Jack Naylor, Larry Lazenby, Craig Gilchrist, Jack Dotson, Fred Brown and Charles Laughlin.

Burial was in the Wapello Cemetery.
