Services for James E. Baird 1923-1993, 69, of Davenport were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 1993, at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Burial was in National Cemetery, Rock Island.

Mr. Baird died Sunday, July 4, at his home.

The son of Ralph E. and Fanny Bras Baird, he was born on the family farm five miles south of Wapello on September 2, 1923. Mr. Baird graduated from Wapello High Shcool in 1942.

He was a beautician at M.L. Parker for 25 years and retired from Red Jacket (Marley Pump) in 1990. In May of this year, he retired from Wal-Mart, Bettendorf.

He married Mary Virginia Parish in 1943 in Memphis, Missouri, during World War II while serving in the U.S. Army as a technical sergeant until discharge in 1945.

Memberships included Reformed Presbyterian Church, Morning Sun, during his youth and later St. John's United Methodist Church, Davenport. He loved his family and the Lord.

A memorial fund has been established.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Deborah (Mrs. William) Bishel, Davenport; a son, David, Davenport; three grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; a sister, Eleanor (Mrs. Warren) Durst, Muscatine; and brothers, Don, Coralville, Lloyd, Cedar Rapids, and Phil, DeKalb, Illinois.
