Sarah A. Bonta, age 76, a former resident of Colona, Illinois, died Saturday, July 24, 1999, at the Hnery County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

The daughter of Maurice and Gladys Nichols Kerr, she was born June 29, 1923 at Newport, Iowa. In 1939 she married Fred Duke of Burlington who died in 1973. In 1977 she married Corwyn Bonta of Greenrock, Illinois, he died in 1986.

She lived most of her life in the Quad Cities.

She was a member of the O.E.S., Lioness Club, President of the Colona Auxiliary; she enjoyed camping, reading, doing crafts, and loved her family and friends.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Duke of Burlington; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 step-grandson and two step-granddaughters; one step-great-grandson and one step-great-granddaughter; one brother, Kenneth Kerr of Morning Sun; five sisters, Maxine Johnston of California, Cleo Anderson of Davenport, Juanita McMullin of Texas, Nina Hall and Nancy McElhinney, both of Morning Sun.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, three sons, one daughter, three brothers and two sisters.

According to her wishes, her body has been donated to the University of Iowa, with burial of her cremains to be in the Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun, at a later date.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 26 from the Morning Sun United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harlan Winter officiating.

A general memorial has been established.
