Wayne Henry Bergen, 70, of Denmark, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. He was born March 30, 1934, in Wapello, to Manfred A. and Alma B. Stone Bergen. He married Rozita A. Garrison on March 31, 1951, in Muscatine, Iowa.
He worked for nine years as a guard at the Iowa State Penitentiary. He then worked for General Electric in Burlington for 21 years before retiring.
He was a member of the Fort Madison church of the Nazarene, and was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Belinda and Kenneth Rippenkroeger, Porter, Texas, Julie Ann and Larry Watts of Des Moines and Barbara E. and Allan Sirovy of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step grand-children and one step great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Rozan Driskel.
Funeral services were Friday morning at King-Lynk Funeral Home with the Revs. Brian Williams and John Hayes officiating. Special music was "Home Where I Belong," "What a Day That Will Be" and "Sheltered in the Arms of God," with Bob Carter soloist. Honorary pallbearers were Allan Sirovy, Kenneth Rippenkroeger, Larry Watts, Alan Driskell, Andrew Barbar and Karl Rippenkroeger. Burial was in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial was established for the Church of the Nazarene.
