COLUMBUS JUNCTION - John Benjamin Bell, 83, died at his home early today.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Chapel. the Rev. Tom Woodin will officiate. Burial will be at the Columbus City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where a memorial has been established. There will be a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Bell was born Dec. 12, 1906, in Louisa County, Iowa, a son of Clifford and Maude Hetfield Bell. On Aug. 1, 1926, he married Fern Colton in Muscatine. She died in April of 1988.

He was a member of the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church, the Columbus City Masonic Lodge No. 107 AF & AM, the Davenport Consistory, and the Louisa County Shrine. He was a 33rd Degree Mason.

He had owned and operated Bell Trucking in Columbus Junction, retiring in 1967.

Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Peters, Mrs. Ephraim (Margaret) Gabriel and Mrs. Charles (Carla) Shellabarger, all of Columbus Junction; 10 granchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by one sister, one brother and one grandchild.
