Mrs. Fern Bell, 80, dies

Mrs. Fern Marie Bell, 80, of Columbus Junction, died at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, on Friday, April 22, 1988.

Services were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Columubus Junction United Methodist Church with Rev. Thomas Woodin officiating. Donna Belle Hughes was organist and Kristie Cummings, soloist. Casket bearers were Chris, Craig and Curt Shellabarger, Robert Gabriel, John Peters and Timothy Kelly. Honorary casket bearers were Bill Peters, Richard Pugh, Marvin Carlson, Hayden Davis and Clyde Crawford. Flower attendents were Edna Peters and Eileen Carlson. Burial was in Columbus City Cemetery.

Mrs. Bell was born August 18, 1907, at Haskins, the daughter of William Lee and Estella Emmons Colton. She married John Benjamin Bell on August 1, 1926, at Muscatine. She was a member of the Columubs Junction United Methodist Church and of the Emma Beckman Chapter Order of the Eastern Star for 35 years.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Peters, Mrs. Ephraim (Margaret) Gabriel and Mrs. Charles (Carla) Shellabarger, all of Columbus Junction; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

One grandchild; one brother, William Harold Colton; and one sister, Mrs. Edna L. Hoben, preceded her in death.
