C.R. "Bud" Bell, age 79, of Rochelle, Illinois, died August 7, 1999, after a courageous battle with cancer.

C.R. "Bud" Bell was born June 7, 1920, in Oakville, Iowa, the son of Lloyd and Ruth (Bjork) Bell. He married Arlene Collins in 1942. She preceded him in death in 1961. Bud then married Dorothe Wilson in 1962.

Bud was a semi-pro baseball player for 12 years. He enjoyed most sports and was an avid golfer. he was a W.W. II Veteran serving in the Signal Company of the 104th Infantry Division for three years. He served in France, Germany and Belgium.

Bud worked 43 years in the telephone industry working in Columbus Junction, Aledo, IL., Mascoutah, IL and was transferred to Rochelle, IL in 1968. He retired in 1981 from GTE as a State Safety Director.

Bud was a life member of VFW Post #1571 Aledo, IL; member of the Masonic Lodge #107 AF and AM of Columbus City, Iowa; the Sun City Arizona Elks Lodge # 2559; and a life member of the Independent Telephone Pioneer Association.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothe of Rochell, and one daughter, Mrs. Deena (Thomas) Patrick of LaCross, WI. There are two grandchildren.

Masonic services were held August 10. Bud's body was cremated and private burial will be at a later date. A memorial has been established to the Ogle County Hospice Association.

* A hand-written notation states that he was buried in Letts Cemetery.
