WASHINGTON, Iowa - Bessie M. Bell, 93, Washington, died Friday, April 8, 2005, at Washington Care Center.

The Rev. Cathy Whitlatch will officiate the services. Burial will be at the Columbus City Cemetery.

Mrs. Bell was born March 24, 1912, in Washington County, the daughter of Charles and Clara Glasgow-Benda. She married Paul Bell Sr. March 17, 1930, in Washington.

She was a farmer's wife, although she held other employment at various times in her life, such as a waitress, secretary and a nurse's aide. She was known as a good cook, a sharp dresser and she enjoyed caring for animals.

Survivors include a son, Paul Bell and wife Marceline of Grandview; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, James J. Benda; her husband; a sister, Florence; two brothers, Harold and Arthur, and a grandson, Douglas.
