Leon Wesley Baxter, 60, formerly of Morning Sun, died Sunday, January 31, 1982 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.

He was born September 19, 1921, to William and Nellie Hesler Baxter near Morning Sun. He married Helen Huffman on July 29, 1939, at Kahoka, Missouri.

He held the purple heart medal from World War II, was a member of the American Legion and past commander of the Hays-Scott Post 112 at Morning Sun. He moved to Pelican Lake, Wisconsin in 1954, where he owned and operated a summer resort. For the past 16 years, he worked in construction and the Rhinelander banking system. He was a member of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Pelican Lake; one daughter, Judith A. Baxter, Crandon, Wisconsin; one sister, Beth G. Hobbs, Morning Sun; one brother, Kenneth D. Baxter, Morning Sun.

Funeral services were held February 2, at the Carlson Funeral Home in Rhinelander.
