Mrs. Hazel Bates Called By Death

Mrs. Hazel Bates died at 11:55 a.m. Sunday, February 6, 1977, at Maple Leaf Care Center in Mt. Pleasant after an extended illness at the age of 71 years 4 months and 11 days.

Hazel Emmaline Voight was born September 25, 1905, at Iola, Kansas, the daughter of John and Lucy Hawkins Voight. She married Harrison Elmer Jones, January 12, 1927, in Kansas. She later married Rodney Bates on November 15, 1955.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Mary Lou) Swailes of Olds and Mrs. Robert (Sarah Ellen) Grisham of Mt. Pleasant; five sons, David Elmer Jones of Muscatine, Harrison Elmer Jones Jr. and Edward Elmer Jones of Washington, Edgar Lee Jones of Prospect Heights, Ill., and Ronnie Gene Jones of Mt. Pleasant; 24 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Delbert (Dorothy) Sayre and one brother, James Fisher, both of Keosauqua, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home with Rev. William Strickland of Wayland officiating. Casket bearers were George Stapher, Richard Simmons, Marvin Wiseman and Tom O'Brien.

Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery.
