Ira Bates Owen dies at age 75

Funeral services were held Monday, March 21, at the Riley Funeral Home in Muscatine for Ira Bates Owen, 75, of 313 W. 11th St. in Muscatine.

The Rev. Earle R. Harvey, pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church officiated.

Mr. Owen died late Thursday night, March 17, at the Morning Sun Manor nursing home after a long illness.

Burial was at the Conesville Cemetery.

The son of Herbert H. and Ava Bates Owen, he was born July 14, 1907 at Muscatine, and was a lifelong resident there.

Mr. Owen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He had been employed in the maintenance department at Stanley Consultants, retiring in 1971.

He is survived by one son, Larry B. Owen of Muscatine, two sisters Hilda Owen and Mrs. Forrest (Winifred) Maxwell both of Muscatine, and a brother, Amos Owen of New Hampshire.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
