Nadine (Buster) Cocklin, age 91, a lifelong resident of the grandview community, died Sunday morning, October 19, 2008, at the Colonial Manor-Columbus Junction. She was born on September 11, 1917, east of Grandview, the daughter of Verne John Buster and Zena Alberta Cross Buster. She married Dean Paris Cockloin on February 20, 1937 in Burlington. He preceded her in death on April 25, 1981.

Nadine graduated from Grandview High School in 1935. She belonged to the Grandview High School Alumni, and was honored for her perfect attendance of 73 years.

Nadine and her husband Dean operated the family farm for 43 years, until the time of his death and she retired. Nadine, Dean, and their family enjoyed many fishing trips to Minnesota.

She was a livetime member of the Keep Pace Club. The club was formed in 1935 and Nadine joined two years later and has been a member up to her death. The Keep Pace Club started with fifteen members. They gathered once a month for neighborhood fellowship. As of today there are three members left.

She entered into a longtime friendship with Evert Vineyard in 1984. Nadine and Evert enjoyed many years living in Donna, Texas in the winter months and spending their summers on the home place in Iowa.

Nadine enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking on holidays for them. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and many trips with Evert.

She is survived by a son, Jerry Dean Cocklin of Grandview; three daughters, Diane Adye of Lincoln, Illinois, Mary Jane & John Tank of Davenport, and Sherry & Rick Parkhurst of Wapello; eight grandchildren, James Adye, Tamara Adye Syukes, Bandy Adye, Wendy Adye, Penny Adye Griffin, Douglas Cocklin, Sunny Parkhurst Hamilton, and Kimberly Tank Keegan; twenty great grandchildren; a brother, Wayne & Janelle Buster of Grandview; a sister, Donna & Alvin Wehr of Ainsworth; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean; two grandsons, Kurk Adye and an infant Scott Adye; a great grandson, Todd Blaum; and a sister Bonnie Belle Frisk.

Friends may call after noon on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello where the family will meet friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.

The funeral ceremony for Nadine Cocklin will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, October 23, 2008, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home with Rev. Darryl Erickson officiating. Burial will follow at the Grandview Cemetery. A lunch and fellowship will follow at the Grandview Community Bible Church Fellowship Hall.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Washington Hospice and the Louisa County Responders.
