Bartenhagen, 77, dies

Henry Peter Bartenhagen, 77, of Wapello, died suddenly Thursday evening, October 1, 1987, in Wapello.

Services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Wapello first Presbyterian Church. Rev. Bill Young officiated. Burial was in the Harrison Cemetery.

A memorial has been established at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.

Betty McChesney was organist. Casket bearers were the grandsons, Stephen, William, John, Charles, and Michael. Flower attendants were Kathy Kahn, Elaine Grouwinkel, and Joan Woods.

Mr. Bartenhagen was born September 10,1910, at Muscatine, a son of William and Emma Friedrick Bartenhagen. He was united in marriage on May 23, 1936, to Marie Creswell at Wapello. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge 304, Muscatine and a former member of the American Angus Association. He had farmed for most of his adult life and prior to that he taught school in the Fruitland area for three years. He had retired.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Clarence Bartenhage and Forrest Bartenhagen, both of Wapello; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Ella Schmidt, Syosset, New York; and Elfrieda Beik, Wapello.

Three brothers preceded him in death, Albert, Clarence, and Walder.
