Wapello Republican, October 8, 1987

Henry Peter Bartenhagen, 77, of Wapello, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1987, in Wapello.

Born Sept. 20, 1910, in Muscatine, he was the son of William and Emma Friedrick Bartenhagen. he married Marie Creswell May 23, 1936, in Wapello.

He taught school for three years in Fruitland and then farmed in the Wapello area. He was retired. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Wapello, Elks Lodge 304, Muscatine, and was a former member of the American Angus Association.

Surviviing are his wife; two sons, Clarence Bartenhagen and Forrest Bartenhagen, both of Wapello; two sisters, Ella Schmidt, Syosset, N.Y., and Elfrieda Beik, Wapello; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Albert, Clarence and Walder.

Visitation was from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 4 at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Bill Young officiated. Betty McChesney was organist. Flowers were cared for by Kathy Kahn, Elaine Grouwinkel and Joan Woods. Casketbearers were his grandsons, Stephen, William, John, Charles and Michael Bartenhagen.
Burial was in Harrison cemetery.
